Robert A Soslow MD is at the Department of Pathology, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York, USA

published online 20 March 2008.

Abstract

Uterine mesenchymal tumors are unusual neoplasms that frequently give rise to diagnostic difficulties. I have chosen to review the clinical and histopathologic features of three interesting lesions – low-grade endometrial stromal sarcoma, leiomyosarcoma and carcinosarcoma (malignant mixed Mullerian tumor) – and have also provided information about ancillary diagnostic techniques and strategies for sorting between entities featured in the differential diagnosis.

Keywords: carcinosarcoma, endometrial stromal sarcoma, leiomyosarcoma, malignant mixed Mullerian tumor, uterus
